10 K - 53:26
1/2 Marathon - 2:06:14

Short-Term Running Goals:

ok, i think i seriously over-estimated myself, at least for now.  my new goal is to truly find passion for running and to not feel so overwhelmed by the accomplishments of others.  i am who i am, sam i am. lol.

Long-Term Running Goals:

i am confident that i will some day run in the boston marathon at an 8-minute mile pace or less.

Personal:

i am a free spirit, so passion i do not lack, but stability i do.

i am a high school spanish teacher and have been to spain, el salvador, cuba, and ecuador.

i coach girls cross country.  we made it to semi-state this year and have our eyes set on state next year!

i love practicing yoga and hope to practice more consistently, especially during these up-coming winter months.  my dream job is to be a yoga instructor.

i am obsessed with books, magazines, and online newspapers.  i also really love childrens' books in spanish.  they are neat!

i am taking voice lessons, ha!

i like art, but am really bad at it.  :)

my ex-boyfriend and paul petersen ran cross country and were in a band called "gold bug" together, lol.  this is my version of a claim to fame.  :-D

i am not acutally sure of the mileage because i switched from eliptical to treadmill to eliptical, but let's just say that i was at the gym for two hours!

approximately - did half and half on the treadmill and eliptical.

it feels great to be back to work.  i don't think my body is meant to handle not having a job and the routine that goes along with it!  i was sick for most of my break, but the strange thing is that as soon as i started working out again, i started feeling better!  weird.

I have bad memories about running laps in those hallways. You should make the kids run outside; it will make them tough. :-)

From Cassandra on Thu, Feb 07, 2008 at 13:35:40

hi paul!

yeah, i am starting to hate these hallways. they make my legs hurt. we have a new fieldhouse, but wrestling and gymnastics have mats covering up the track, grr. although, i guess where they run isn't really up to me now because i am just volunteering with the high school until junior high track starts in march (trying to recruit those eighth graders to run cc!).

hope all is well. :)

i don't have any miles to log.  i just wanted everyone to know that i haven't fallen off the face of the earth and that i have modified my ambitious goals a bit.  i have been running after school on most days, but instead of knowing the distance, i only know for how many minutes.  on average, i am probably running just ten miles a week.  i am still playing volleyball and doing a variety of other things, such as yoga and taebo.  last night i spent about an hour goofing off on my gazelle.  does anyone remember those things?!  i bought mine for a few bucks at a yard sale.  it is not good equipment for keeping your heart rate up, but it is great for doing various stretching and strength-building exercises.  it is like doing simplified yoga on a platform, i guess because it encourages fluid movement.  anyway, i hope everyone is doing well!

Glad to read a new entry, Cassandra! Good luck with your new running goals, it sounds as if your other activities are keeping you fit and happy. When the weather warms in March it will be easier to find inspiration to run.

well, i did better than expected.  i ran it just as well as last year, which surprised me since i've been training about half as much.  this gives me hope that i am in better shape that i've been thinking, so now i know my potential if only i'd just stay focused!  today i start running with the high schoolers for real, so that should help.  the previous weeks i have been running, but just for fun.  now we'll be getting into competition mode!

8:13/mile isn't bad for me!

Great job!!!! It's always nice to see the numbers and realize you're better than you thought! That always motivates me further. How's the weather in Indiana? I've got a good friend who lives 45 minutes out of Fort Wayne -- in Warsaw. Is that close to you?

How are the voice lessons going? I took voice lessons when we lived in Michigan and learned soooooo much!!! I miss them terribly!

hi laura!

ft. wayne is about three hours north of me. it is cold here in indiana! however, sometimes one day is fifty, the next is ten, and then the next is thirty. it's difficult to be prepared for the day like this.

voice lessons are great, but about to come to an end soon. i need to cut back on spending and unfortunately, this is one thing that has to go. i am learning a lot too and i think if i can continue to work on what my teacher has taught me until the fall, i will have made great strides and be ready to start again.

hope all is well with you!

i'm so excited!  i improved 13 minutes from my time last year.  if i do that again in '09, i will meet my goal of 1:40, which was my original goal when i started this blog.  so maybe it's a year later, but there's hope for the future!  maybe i'll get even faster since training has started to mean so much to me.  i've been training hard for the last two and a half months and i'd like to keep going.  my fastest 5K went from a 24 something to a 23 something, so that's exciting too.

Nice to see you blogging again, no more a lost sheep :-) Congratulations on a PR. To get further improvement make sure to get out 6 days a week, no skipping, that is the key.

Welcome to the blog or back, I guess! I LOVE yoga too! It is really the greatest thing (aside from running ;)

From Megan on Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 19:17:38

Hi...I'm new this blog site. But the site said you were a lost sheep, so I thought I'd pop in and say Hello! Great Job on the 1/2 Marathon...13 minutes improvement, wow!

PS... I teach yoga and it is an awesome cross training exercise for distance running.
